To claim that Bergen is a bit rainy would be an understatement. On average, it rains about 240 days a year, ranking it among the wettest cities in Europe. So, when Fana Golfklubb launched plans to improve its practice facilities in 2019, the natural step was to turn to Trackman to help upgrade its driving range.

WELCOME TO FANA GOLFKLUBB

Since opening in 2004, Fana Golfklubb has emerged as one of the largest golf clubs in Norway — it offers the only 18-hole course in Bergen. Making the most of its stunning natural surroundings, the 69-par course stretches around Lake Skeievatnet, while also venturing into forested areas. With more than 2,000 members, Fana Golfklubb’s picturesque location and modern facilities make it a major draw for golfers in the region.

BUILDING ON STRENGTHS

Fana Golfklubb has long emphasized the joys and camaraderie in golf as an important fixture for its members. Combining quality with a positive and inclusive atmosphere, regardless of skill level, the club’s vision is to maintain its leading position on the Norwegian golf scene. To attain that goal, Fana Golfklubb constantly seeks to improve the quality level of its services, facilities and events. Adding Trackman Range is part of that strategy.

The optimal solutions

In 2019, plans were underway to improve Fana Golfklubb’s practice area — with a particular focus on a driving range upgrade. “We searched for solutions to enhance the quality of our offerings, and radar-based technology quickly came into consideration,” said Marcus Knudsen, Club Coordinator at Fana Golfklubb. “After careful evaluation of various suppliers, we concluded that Trackman Range was the optimal solution for us.”


Fana Golfklubb’s current driving range facilities include:

  • Half of bays are covered, with lighting for evening use

  • 36 bays plus a pro studio for intruction

  • Players use personal phones/tablets to access data*

  • Range open to everyone, including non-members

  • Projected 2.8 million balls hit in 2023

  • Most popular Trackman feature: Find my distance

A Major Win-WIn

The response to the new Trackman Range solution has been overwhelming, with members and guests flocking to the driving range. Members across all age groups have embraced the club’s transition from having an ordinary traditional driving range to running a modern practice facility.

YEAR-ROUND ACTIVITIES

Due to unfavorable weather, Fana Golfklubb used to shut down during the winter months. The installation of four Trackman simulators in the clubhouse changed that — and cold weather isn’t enough to keep members away from Trackman Range, either. The seamless transition from seasonal to year-round operations has helped boost the club’s bottom line.

The power of the Portal

Fana Golfklubb employs the Trackman business portal daily to organize tournaments, track usage and more. It also provides data pertaining to number of balls hit, most popular bays and high-activity periods. The groundskeeping team even uses it to identify areas where balls are frequently lost to optimize collection. And a warning system related to repeated shots hit outside the range zone has improved course safety.


An outstanding partnership

Knudsen underlined that the introduction of Trackman has lifted the Fana Golfklubb golf experience. The Norwegian is so pleased with the collaboration that, on a scale of 1–10 in terms of how likely he’d recommend Trackman to others, he went for an 11!

“Trackman Range has made it more attractive for members to use the driving range, even during the cold winter months,” Knudsen said. “It is with great enthusiasm that we recommend Trackman.”
